With Soil Association status and founder members of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, David and Caroline Welch hope to inspire their guests to become more sustainable through the example they set at Cote How. They champion the issues and offer advice and information about all aspects of sustainability.

The judges were particularly impressed by the attention to detail at Cote How, and the continuing research into improving the sustainability of the business. Guests are encouraged to leave their car behind with information on how to enjoy the area on foot, bike or by bus and a discount available to guests who hang up their car keys for the duration of their stay.
