Everyone has their own idea of what makes a perfect park. For some, it's a hideaway location in tranquil countryside. For others, it's a family-friendly park with lots going on. Or perhaps you'd prefer somewhere suited to a special activity, like fell-walking, sailing or cycling?

You'll find just what you're looking for among the 100-plus Cumbrian parks in membership of BH&HPA, the park industry's professional body. These parks offer not just the best locations and facilities, but also the friendliest and most welcoming atmospheres.

If you are intending to camp, or are bringing a touring caravan or motorhome, many parks offer first-class pitches. Some are fully-serviced, and all of the park's facilities will be available to you.  Alternatively, you can hire a caravan holiday home or lodge on many parks. Spacious and fully equipped, they are ideal for families who don't want to compromise on comfort.

There is a huge range of different holiday styles available. If you're keen to keep everybody occupied, just look for facilities such as swimming pools, leisure centres, entertainment, clubs and bars.  Or if you'd prefer a no-frills park with just a great location, then you've also plenty of options. Maybe you'd like to get the pulses racing just a bit? Many parks are ideally placed for outdoor adventure, so check out those with action on offer, either on the park or nearby.

It's easy to judge the quality of your chosen park, thanks to the tourist boards' official park grading scheme. This assesses each park on the quality - not the quantity - of what's on offer, and awards up to five stars for the standards it maintains.  Look out too for the many parks in Cumbria which have gained the David Bellamy Conservation Award for environmental excellence. You'll often find these parks also provide features such as wildlife walks and special children's activities.
