proper beer from cumbria, real ale galore...

Hawkshead Brewery, Staveley

The number of small breweries in Cumbria is still increasing, currently totalling 23 breweries and 2 cideries, with numbers 26, 27, 28 and 29 planned and on their way. So perhaps instead of "Bagging a Wainwright" you may be up for the challenge of "Bagging a Brewery" - there are plenty to choose from, all over the county. Now this task is not as easy as it sounds, particularly if you're going to do it on some sort of circular walk. As a rough estimate, you'll have to walk over 300 miles, ascend and descend at least the equivalent of Everest and quaff over 100 pints of truly different, real local ales.

If you're not up for that but want to try the different ales in a somewhat more leisurely fashion, then you could always go to one of Cumbria's regular beer festivals. The next one on my radar is to be held at The Hawkshead Brewery beer hall, in Staveley's Mill Yard, on the 24th to the 27th of July. There will be over 30 beers and two ciders available with an additional outside bar and live music. Looks like it will be a fun event
