Cheese tasting in Cumbria

The Slow Food organisation has catalogued hundreds of extraordinary products from around the world, including two from Cumbria, Herdwick sheep and Lyth Valley damsons. The organisation believes that the food we eat should taste good; it should be produced in a clean way that doesn't harm the environment, animal welfare or human health; and its producers should receive a fair compensation for their work. Cumbria has its own local Slow Food organisation. They arrange tastings and tours themed around local produce. In late April, Slow Food Cumbria will be the host of the annual meeting of Slow Food UK. Cumbrian producer Peter Gott, who breeds rare breed pigs and wild boar, will be one of the speakers and local chef Steven Doherty, also a Slow Food Cumbria member, will be making lunch.
